The Town of Bristol is advising residents to be aware of a scam in which false invoices are being emailed to property owners, attempting to bill them for zoning, Conditional Use Permits and land use fees.
These invoices, which have included the Chairman's name/contact information and Bristol logo, are not sent from a legitimate town email address and then asks the recipient to wire money to the town. They have targeted individuals with active applications. The town would not ask for fees to be wired.
Always verify the email address from the sender that is ligitimate. A town email will always list @tn.bristol.wi.gov. If you receive an invoice that is unexpected or does not appear legitimate, please contact our office at 608-837-6494 to confirm before you submiting any sort of payment. This scam is on the rise so be alert.
